MAYKE plays STAGIONI
Primavera - Devozione
As a classical cellist I fell in love with the E-Cello. I composed a one hour piece called Stagioni: a symphonic ode to life and nature! I developed my own style taking in influences of Vivaldi, minimalistic music, blues and rock. This first part of "Primavera" is called Devozione. It's about devotion to love: the most powerful force in life. Performance at Deutsches Theater München.
Autunno - Rivoltoso
Rivoltoso is the second movement of "Autunno". It is one blow of virtuosity: like a violent Autumn storm, bursting from nature into human life. Blowing away the old that creates space for the new... a rocky piece with a funky jazz bass solo in the middle before the climactic ending. Performance at Deutsches Theater München.
Inverno - Contemplazione
I composed Contemplazione, the first movement of "Inverno", in times that my father was seriously ill, knowing that one day soon I would have to say goodbye and let him go... Contemplazione to me is the sound of the holy silence as nature sleeps, taking time to reflect on what once was. Performance at Deutsches Theater München.
Inverno - Epilogo
Epilogo, the last movement of "Inverno", is about farewell and new beginnings: the circle of life. It consists of3 different sections. The first is a line of improvisation, a long line that ends with a very high note... like a bird flying wherever it takes him... the bass note underneath is a metaphor for grounding: wherever life takes you, you will always need grounding. In the middle section I tried to approach a string quartet with slow lines in perfect harmony. It is a farewell! Stagioni ends with the same motif as the beginning. As a token of hope: the circle of life! Performance at Deutsches Theater München.
Autunno - Nostalgia
This is a fragment out of Stagioni's third season "Autunno", it's first part: Nostalgia! It is about the richness and diversity of colours in nature and life and the stunning beauty of it all. My Nostalgia is strongly inspired by "Nisi Dominus" of Vivaldi, to emphasise the circular motion of life and to experience the beauty even in the darkness. Performance at Deutsches Theater München.
Estate - Rituale
Rituale, the second part of "Estate", is about all the rituals in our lives! Rituals are our anchors, moments that gives us the opportunity to be grateful for all the things that matter in life and to celebrate those with our loved ones. To emphasise this idea, I used repetitive patterns, mesmerising minimalistic patterns, that are build up and then turn into a hypnotising bolero-like rhythm, with explosive percussion and bass patterns. Like a festive celebration which ends with fireworks, I end Rituale with a rocky Jimmy Hendrix-inspired solo! Performance at Deutsches Theater München.
Primavera - Seduzione
SEDUZIONE: the second part of Stagioni's "Primavera". While I was creating my own style when composing Stagioni, I took in influences of Vivaldi's Quatro Stagioni, folkloric and old blues elements (amongst much more!). For this piece, I imagined myself in a medieval ensemble in a carnavalesque scenery of a majestic Italian palazzo, with all the exuberance of potential and beauty! Performance at Deutsches Theater München.
Estate - Destino
While I was composing Destino, the first part of "Estate", my daughter decided she was ready to leave home and find her own destiny! So I dedicated Destino to her, as it's about to love and to let go. The love that I got back from my daughter is more than I ever could have dreamed of. She truly is a unique and wonderful person, and the most amazing daughter you can imagine. I feel truly blessed! Performance at Deutsches Theater München.
